James F. Anhut
As Senior Vice President, Development for DineEquity, Jim Anhut leads domestic restaurant development and franchise administration for the IHOP® and Applebee’s® brands. He is accountable for the creation and execution of strategies that drive stakeholder value and enterprise growth through a dynamic traditional and non-traditional unit development function.
In his position, Jim leads the teams responsible for development, property design, architectural plan review, construction, lease management and franchise administration. Jim most recently spent 18 years in senior franchise development and brand management roles with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), which has a presence in nearly 100 countries. Prior to that, Jim was with Choice Hotels for five years in senior brand management and real estate acquisition positions.
Jim is a third-generation hospitality industry veteran with more than 35 years of experience, including more than 25 years in senior management positions with several national lodging franchisers and extended-stay hotel brands. In addition to his operations experience, he has launched three lodging brands, influenced the introduction and growth of two additional brands, and acquired, developed or financed lodging real estate with an aggregate value exceeding $1 billion. Jim began his career in the hospitality industry in 1980 as a general manager for his family’s hotel and restaurant business in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
Jim received a bachelor's degree in marketing from Emory University and a master’s degree in finance and hospitality management from Michigan State University. He is a certified hotel administrator and is a founding member of the Extended Stay Lodging Council of the American Hotel and Lodging Association. He serves on the boards of directors of the School of Hospitality Management at Michigan State University and the International Franchise Association.
