Richard J. Dahl
Mr. Dahl serves as chairman of DineEquity, Inc. (NYSE: DIN), one of the world’s largest full-service restaurant companies. DineEquity franchises more than 3,700 restaurants globally in 18 countries under the Applebee’s and IHOP brands, with over 385 independent franchisees. The company is based in Glendale, CA.
Mr. Dahl brings over 40 years of demonstrated strategic, operational and international management expertise and experience to revitalizing and strengthening the Applebee’s and IHOP brands. Prior to assuming the Chairmanship, Mr. Dahl served on the DineEquity Board of Directors since February 2004, most recently as lead director.
Mr. Dahl has a history of working with established companies to establish growth and financial success in challenging times. From 2010 through 2016, Mr. Dahl served as president and chief executive officer of the James Campbell Company, LLC, a 114-year-old private real estate operating company with national holdings, restoring earnings and asset values in excess of pre-recession levels. From 2008 through 2015, Mr. Dahl served as Chairman of the Board of International Rectifier, Inc., a $ 1.2 billion market leader in semiconductor devices, Mr. Dahl brought the company through a period of financial instability and irregularities that resulted in the company’s acquisition by Infineon Technologies AG at a 385% increase in enterprise value.
From July of 2004 through July of 2007 Mr. Dahl served as president and chief operating officer of Dole Food Company, Inc., the world’s largest producer of fresh fruits, vegetables and fresh-cut flowers, and a multi-national company operating in 94 countries. He restructured and diversified Dole’s Latin American, European and Asian markets, increased the pipeline of the packaged food division by more than twenty-five percent and developed a new marketing plan that grew sales from $4.6 billion to $7.2 billion over a three-year period.
Mr. Dahl also has served on the Board of IDACORP, Inc. and Idaho Power Company (NYSE:IDA) since 2008, and HEI, Inc. and Hawaiian Electric Company (NYSE:HE) since 2017.
Mr. Dahl was president, chief operating officer and director of Bank of Hawai’i Corporation (NYSE:BOH), a multi-national financial institution with $18 billion in assets from 1981 through 2002.
He began his career in 1973 with the international accounting firm of Ernst & Young as a Certified Public Account.
Mr. Dahl is a graduate of the University of Idaho.
